Step-by-step
Step 1
You can create wholly individual designs for your pinboard in your favourite colours. In our example, we’ve used the following shades: permanent spray in mild mint, broad acrylic markers in classy mauve, silver and black, the 3D double liner in traffic red and the fine acrylic marker in black and white.
Step 2
First, spray the pinboard in mild mint. To do this, cover the work area well using film or paper. Use masking tape to carefully mask off the parts of the board that you don’t want to paint. We recommend you spray at a distance of around 25 cm, using horizontal and vertical strokes, as this will ensure the most even coverage. In our Spray Basics section, we provide important tips on how to achieve the perfect spraying technique. Before proceeding to the next step, let the paint dry thoroughly.
Step 3
Next, carefully remove the adhesive strips. Now continue with the acrylic markers. These must first be activated: shake the marker with the cap on until you hear the mixing balls inside the pen start to rattle. Next, carefully pump the marker up and down until ink appears in the tip. Test the marker on a piece of scrap paper. Decorate the wooden surround in a range of colours using the broad acrylic markers. The wide, soft chisel tip is perfect for this task.
Step 4
Here’s a tip for really striking shopping lists that will be instantly noticed on your pinboard: using the broad nozzle of the acrylic 3D double liner, you can create really nice broad strokes, like the red ones shown in our photo. This marker comes in a tube and you don’t need to activate it but can use it right away.
Step 5
Let the red boxes dry thoroughly. Because the acrylic marker ink is opaque, you can use white, say, or another colour to write words in the red boxes using the fine acrylic marker. They’re guaranteed to stand out.
Step 6
You can also jazz up your finished pinboard by adding further decorative features, such as mini bunting.
