How many days left until Christmas?

We'd like to show you this super-quick idea for a creative present to give someone in the run-up to Christmas: a storage jar with enough delicious cookies to last (hopefully!) right through to Christmas Eve. It's the kind of gift you can give to good friends who just can't wait until Christmas arrives – one biscuit for each day. It’s basically the equivalent of opening the window of an Advent calendar! edding gloss paint markers are ideal for customising the jar. We chose a silver-and-white theme, but you can select any of the 22 gloss paint marker colours (there are 22 in total). Because each one is opaque, quick-drying and smudge-proof, it’s possible to create designs without smears.

Step-by-step

Step 1

You can see all the materials you need at a glance in our photo. We used edding 751 gloss paint markers in white and silver. First, print out the template and cut off the blank edges to suit the size of the jar. Tape the template inside the jar so the text shows through clearly.

Step 2

It will now be quite easy to copy the text onto the glass using the gloss paint markers. Before you use a gloss paint marker, you need to activate it as follows: shake the marker vigorously with the cap on, then remove the cap and pump the marker a few times on a piece of absorbent paper until ink appears in the nib. Now you’re ready to get started. When writing the wording, you can alternate between silver and white. After use, always store the marker horizontally.

Step 3

In the case of broader letters, we recommend you draw the outer edges first and then wait a while until the ink is dry before filling them in. Try adding a few small stars or snowflakes to jazz up the writing. Finally, remove the template. Your cookie jar is now finished!
