Black on white

(Ahrensburg, March 2007) That well-known twosome, “Black and White”, have already taken the fashion industry by storm. It now seems that there’s also no escaping this high-contrast double act in the world of furnishings and decoration. It’s a familiar look from the 1980s, but with a difference: today, this classic colour duo is being combined to powerful effect. For example, with loud colours, such as pink, purple and green. But also with floral patterns and decorative stripes. Yet what is the really nice thing about this revival? Quite simply, anyone can try their hand at this season’s “new black” – and without having to dig too deep into your pocket. For whether it be candlesticks, tee-light holders or flower pots, there are white objects to be found in almost every home just waiting to be decorated in the latest style using a black edding paint marker.

At some point, we have all probably been told: “don’t always look at everything in black and white”. It is fortunate for us that at least furniture designers and lifestyle experts have failed to heed this advice. Instead, they have ensured that black and white is, quite simply, everywhere to be seen these days.

And to enable this year’s trendy combination to celebrate its brilliant comeback within your own four walls, edding has a clever assistant to hand. By using a black paint marker from edding, plain white decorative objects can quickly be transformed into black-and-white eye catchers.

Our tip: transform glazed tee-light holders or simple flower pots by adding ornate decoration or floral patterns - a must for all designs in black-and-white. Novice DIYers can first try decorating a white object of their choice by painting stripes down or across - always a popular move.

By the way: if you want to be daring, why not place your own unique home-made creations in front of a wall painted in, say, vivid pink – the opaque, paint-like ink of the edding paint marker will give your ornaments a shiny finish. For those who prefer a more discrete approach, but still want a dash of colour, your beautiful black & white objects can be combined with colourful accessories, such as table runners or napkins.

The paint markers from edding are available in four different stroke widths – including one model with a calligraphy tip – and in up to 14 colours. Their paint-like ink is ideal for designs on almost all surfaces and is highly opaque and waterproof as soon as you apply the first stroke. What is more, the paint markers are known for their high non-fade properties and good resistance to heat and water.
